What this site does
- This site sets out what happened on days when stock market indices moved sharply.
- The index figures come from published price data, and every percentage and date in an article is checked automatically against that source.
- The sentences explaining why, by contrast, are human interpretation. Articles that have not been through review are marked as such.
Not investment advice
- Nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell any security or product.
- The 'if you had put this in' figures assume you tracked the index exactly. You cannot buy an index itself, and dividends, fees and tax are all left out, so real results would differ.
- Investment decisions and their consequences rest with you.
Accuracy
- Figures are checked against source data, but that source data can itself be revised or go missing.
- If you find an error in an explanation, tell us and we will correct it.
- The operator accepts no liability for decisions made on the basis of this site.
