What happened that day?

  • From the low on 29 September 2015 to the high on 1 December, the Nikkei rose 18.2% over 42 trading days
  • The China shock spread the expectation that central banks would ease further
  • The European Central Bank signalled more easing, and the US was delaying its rate rise
  • The Bank of Japan was also expected to expand. In the event it did not move that October
  • When central bank expectations are what lift a price, the price falls as soon as those expectations miss
  • The rebound ended in two months, and a larger fall began early the next year
