trough back to the old high

this undid the slide that began 2000-01-04

What happened that day?

  • From the 17 September 2001 low to 14 July 2005 the KOSPI rose 126.54% — 942 trading days
  • It undid the decline that ran from the dot-com bust through 9/11
  • The climb was not smooth. The 2003 credit card crisis knocked it down hard in the middle
  • Card issuers had handed out cards without checking whether people could repay. Mass delinquency followed and spending froze
  • After that came the China boom, and shipbuilding, steel and chemicals grew earnings sharply
  • Regular monthly fund subscriptions became popular and retail money flowed in steadily. The old high returned on 14 July 2005
