What happened that day?
- On 15 June 2020 the Nikkei 225 fell 3.47%
- Reports were emerging of infections rising again in several US states and in Beijing
- The index had risen almost without pause since the March low, on the premise that the economy would soon be normal
- A second wave breaks that premise, and since recovery was already in the price, the give-back is large
- Fed officials had also said the recovery would take a long time
- It reversed the very next day, when the Fed announced it would buy corporate bonds directly
- In this stretch the index was 29.63% below its peak
