What happened that day?
- From the low on 7 August 2019 to the high on 22 January 2020, the KOSPI rose 18.72% over 112 trading days
- The decline running since 2018 paused here. US-China trade talks were moving toward a first-phase deal
- It followed a summer in which Japan restricted exports of chipmaking materials and shook Korean shares. The damage proved smaller than feared
- Hopes were also high that memory prices had bottomed and would turn, as inventories were falling
