Two chip names pulled the index back

+5.76%

single-day change vs previous close

Part of a longer stretch

The AI bubble argument hits the KOSPI

early in it · 2026-06-22 → 2026-07-30, -38.63% over the whole period

What happened that day?

  • The KOSPI rose 5.76% to close at 8,088.34. No single trigger for the day could be pinned down
  • The market had fallen hard the session before. This is closer to a snapback than a turn
  • Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix both rose sharply, Hynix by more. Those two carry enough weight that the index follows them
  • When a few names drive an index, moves in both directions get bigger. The same structure works on the down days
  • This episode fell 38.63% from the 22 June high to the 30 July low. This is a bounce inside it
  • So it was not the bottom. The index kept sliding through July
